The Honest Cow

The Honest Cow Once there was a herdsman by the name of Gopal. He lived a happy life near a mountain with his cows. One of his cows was named punyakoti. Punyakoti was a mother who was very fond of her calf. At dusk, she would run back home calling out to her little one, very eager to see him. Little did she know, a lion also lived on the same mountain and it so happened that this lion had gone hungry for many days. While wandering in the jungle in search of prey, his gaze fell on punyakoti. Upon seeing her, the hungry lion growled to himself, “I will eat you today.” punyakoti spoke to him respectfully, “O Lord of the jungle, my hungry calf is waiting for me. I will feed my calf and then, I promise, I will come back for your meal.” at first, the lion did not believe her, but when she pleaded repeatedly, he finally gave in. “ Alright, I trust you and will let you go, but do keep your promise, if you don’t, I will never trust any animal again.” Assuring the lion of her return, punya...

THE FOOLISH GOATS

THE FOOLISH GOATS Once a deep stream flowed through a hilly district. A plank of wood served the purpose of a bridge over it. But it was too narrow for two to go on it side by side. Two goats met on it face to face one day. They stood in the middle and looked angrily at each other. “Go back and let me pass first, “said one. “No,” replied the other; “I will pass first, and you shall go back.” There they stood, each determined to fight the matter out. So they lowered their heads and began to push each other. Before long each lost list balance and fell down into the stream below. Moral. Selfishness leads to destruction.

The Ass And The Grasshoppers

The Ass And The Grasshoppers One day as an Ass was walking in the pasture, he found some Grasshoppers chirping merrily in a grassy corner of the field. He listened with a great deal of admiration to the song of the Grasshoppers. It was such a joyful song that his pleasure-loving heart was filled with a wish to sing as they did. "What is it?" he asked very respectfully, "that has given you such beautiful voices? Is there any special food you eat, or is it some divine nectar that makes you sing so wonderfully?" "Yes," said the Grasshoppers, who were very fond of a joke; "it is the dew we drink! Try some and see." So thereafter the Ass would eat nothing and drink nothing but dew. Naturally, the poor foolish Ass soon died. Moral : The laws of nature are unchangeable.
